چکیده

We have considered the results of solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillation experiments in the scheme of mixing of three neutrinos with a mass hierarchy. It is shown that the recent results of the CHOOZ experiment imply that |Ue3| ≪ 1 (U is the neutrino mixing matrix), that the oscillations of solar neutrinos are described by the two-generation formalism and that the oscillations of solar and atmospheric neutrinos decouple. It is also shown that if not only |Ue3| ≪ 1 but also |Ue3| ≪ 1, then the oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos do not depend on matter effects and are described by the two-generation formalism. In this case, with an appropriate identification of the mixing parameters, the two-generation analyses of solar and atmospheric neutrino data provide direct information on the mixing parameters of three neutrinos. We discuss the possibility to get information on |Ue3| in long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. PACS numbers: 14.60.Pq, 26.65.+t, 95.85.Ry Typeset using REVTEX

The Three-neutrino Mixing and Oscillations

The basics of neutrino oscillations is presented. Existing evidences of neutrino oscillations, obtained in the atmospheric and solar neutrino experiments, are considered. The new CHOOZ bound on the element |Ue3| 2, obtained from the three-neutrino analysis of the data, is discussed. Decoupling of neutrino oscillations in the solar neutrino range of ∆m2 is considered.

Decoupling of solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillations

The scheme of mixing of three neutrinos with a mass hierarchy is considered for the explanation of the solar and atmospheric neutrino problems through neutrino oscillations. It is shown that the recent results of the CHOOZ experiment imply that the element Ue3 of the neutrino mixing matrix is small, that the oscillations of solar neutrinos are described by the two-generation formalism and that ...

We perform a global three generation analysis of the current solar and atmospheric evidence in favor of neutrino oscillations. We also include the negative results coming from CHOOZ to constrain the νe mixing. We study the zones of mass–mixing oscillations parameters compatible with all the data. It is shown that almost pure νµ ↔ ντ oscillations are required to explain the atmospheric neutrino ...

We introduce a simple flavor symmetry breaking scheme, in which charged lepton masses have a strong hierarchy and neutrino masses are almost degenerate. It is possible to obtain a natural suppression of lepton flavor mixing between the 1st and 3rd families as well as the approximate decoupling of atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillations with nearly bi-maximal mixing factors. The similarity a...

Constraints on Neutrino Mixing from r-process Nucleosynthesis in Supernovae

In this paper we note that for neutrino mass squared differences in the range 10−4−10−1eV 2, vacuum neutrino oscillations can take place between the neutrinosphere and the weak freeze-out radius in a type II supernova. Requiring that such oscillations are consistent with the r-process nucleosynthesis from supernovae one can constrain the mixing of νe with νμ ( or ντ ) down to 10 −4 eV 2. We fir...
